VCPW Scholar Program & National Little Scholars
Pop Warner is the only national youth sports organization in America that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before permitting them to play. Proof of satisfactory progress in school is required from all children. A 2.0 or 70% on your child’s year-end report card is the minimum grade point average acceptable to participate in any Pop Warner program.
What if I do not have a 2.0/70% grade point average?
We understand that not all student-athletes are able to meet scholastic requirements. If a child does not meet the requirements, he/she may fill out and submit a Scholastic Eligibility Form, which is to be signed by a school administrator and returned to your league prior to participation. This form must be completed before the end of the school year.
What if I have a GREAT report card?
Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status. You must have been in grades 5th-12th to apply for this National Pop Warner award. All other kids can apply to our own award program outlined on the next page.
Please note: To apply for this National All American Pop Warner award program your child needs to have obtained straight A’s every semester or trimester in every subject, and you will need to submit the following:
A copy of your child’s 2007-2008 complete report card (grades for the entire year) as well as copies of all awards your child received during the school year. Due to the large number of award submissions we receive, we cannot accept originals. We will not accept responsibility for lost, misplaced, or the return of, original report cards. Please submit copies.
A completed and typed original National All American Application, signed by both the player and the parent. Do not complete anything in the grading conversion section. The league will complete this portion.
Application and Addendum must be submitted on the same paper copied front to back. They will not accept the paperwork on two separate sheets.
What is a VCPW Scholar Athlete Award?
Our league is the only league in our conference to have developed our own scholastic award program. Last year we had our 2nd annual awards ceremony and presented awards and prizes to over 250+ children who obtained outstanding marks in both academics and citizenship on their year-end report cards. This year we are looking to increase those numbers and give out even more awards!
What do I need to do?
All you need to do is turn in your end-of-the-year report card, we will do the rest! This year both football and cheer will be asked to turn in two copies of their report card at equipment issue. One copy will go to registration for your team file, and the other will go to the award program director.
Character Counts!
We are looking to reward children who excel not only in their academic performance, but also those who exhibit exceptional classroom behavior, leadership qualities, consistent participation, and those who are positive role models to their peers as determined by teacher’s comments on the report card.
How can my child qualify?
VCPW Scholar Athlete Qualifications:
-
1. Must have a 90.0% or better G.P.A. (per grade conversion schematic).
-
2. AND must have exceptional citizenship/behavior grades
-
3. AND must turn in copies of your report card by the deadline above
In our League, children come from several different school districts, which means we have many different grading scales. Most of our elementary schools use the 4-3-2-1 grading scale, but some use A-B-C-D, and yet others use O-S-N or other such scales. As a reference point, obtaining all “3’s” on a report card is considered “at grade level”, whereas all “4’s” is considered “above average” (more like an A on other scales) therefore the child with 4’s would receive the highest award. We have a system that accurately converts all the grading systems into one uniform scale so we can determine eligibility for each award.
Note: In the event that the number of qualifying recipients exceeds the number of prizes ordered for that season, the children with the highest academic and highest citizenship marks for that age/grade category will receive the award. All additional qualifying children will receive the next lowest award.
